Alliance welcomes $180 million boost into SA’s homelessness & social housing service sector

The Toward Home Alliance welcomes the new South Australian Government’s commitment and follow through on their social housing policy promise to inject additional funding into the homelessness and social housing service sector.  The Toward Home Alliance (THA) consists of Lead agency Lutheran Care, Baptist Care SA, Sonder, The Salvation Army and Mission Australia. Together with our partners, THA delivers a range of homelessness specific services and supports to people experiencing and or at risk of homelessness in the Adelaide CBD, inner and outer southern metro area and the Adelaide Hills.  Rohan Feegrade, Chief Executive Officer of the Toward Home Lead Agency Lutheran Care, welcomes the policy commitment announcement by the South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas saying, “As an Alliance, we congratulate the Government on their policy commitments towards increasing the supply of social housing and welcome the announcement of substantial funding to the homeless and social housing services sector in South Australia”.  “This funding injection will add a much needed boost to services, at a time when it is becoming increasingly more difficult for people to secure and maintain housing, placing a greater number of people and families at risk of homelessness.”  Along with the Government’s pledge to conduct renovations on 350 empty Housing Trust homes and undertake maintenance on 3000 other properties, the Alliance congratulates the Premier and team on the additional $6m funding over four years for service providers Hutt St Centre, Catherine House and St Vincent de Paul Society.  Mr Feegrade says, “Cooperation and collaboration is needed to respond to the complex issue of homelessness, and meet the growing demand for support. THA has a good relationship with Hutt Street, Vinnies and Catherine House and we welcome the opportunity to continue these valuable working partnerships to work towards preventing and ending homelessness in the state”.  The Alliance will continue to work with the State Government on this collaborative journey along with the wider South Australian homelessness services sector to support people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.   “Toward Home is grateful to our Alliance workforce and member organisations, sector partners and community members, as we remain steadfast in our commitment to build on the important traction the Toward Home Alliance collaboration has achieved to date”, Mr Feegrade added.   The Alliance would like to thank Premier Peter Malinauskas and Human Services Minister Nat Cook MP for taking interest in the Toward Home Alliance, and also to the Alliance workforce and the wider South Australian homelessness services sector whose focus remains intently on people and families in need.    For media enquiries, please contact:   Lutheran Care (Lead Agency) Communications  [email protected]  |  0427 750 192
